How to improve your memory

A strong and great memory is function of good health and vitality. Are you a student studying for exams? A working class interested in doing all you can to stay mentally alert? Or a senior and aged officer that longs to preserve and enhance his/her grey matter . In this post am going to be sharing with you somethings you can do to improve your memory and mental performance.
   Working with youngsters; I have been asked series of questions part taking to the improvement of memory. Questions like;
How can I Improve my memory?
How can I development a super memory?
How can I development a magnetic memory?

While from the adult folks;
How can I retain my super memory as I age? How can I Prevent Alzheimer as I age? These and many more questions have been asked.

The human brain has an amazing ability to adapt to changes even at old age. This ability is called neuroplasticity. When the brain is stimulated rightly, the brain form new neural pathways, affecting the already existing connections, reacting and adapting to ever change ways. You can use this natural Power of the brain (neuroplasticity) to increase your cognitive abilities, enhance your ability to learn new information and improve your memory at any age .The amazing ability of the brain is directly involved with the hippocampus. The hippocampus is crucial to information processing, acquisition of new memories, and retrieval of old memories. Below are some tips that will help you improve the functionality of your brain at any age.

Exercise Your Brain:  Like your muscles, your brain needs a regular workout to stay healthy and fit as you age. Without regular brain exercise (workout) your brain begins to lose it functionality. The more you workout your brain better you it processes and retrive  information . Not all brain exercise are equal in magnitude. The best brain exercise causes you to change your regular routine and cause you to develop new brain pathways. Lack of brain exercise will cause your brain to atrophy. Any brain exercise you decide to undergo must possess the following property * it must teach you something new *it must be challenging or tasky *it must be something that you can build on I.e develop.

     Physical exercise is very crucial to the health of the brain. Physical exercise increases the amount of oxygen and blood that reaches the brain cells and reduces the risk of  brain disorder that leads to memory lose, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. It also enhance the effects of brain chemical and reduces stress hormone e.g cortisol. Exercise plays an important role in neuroplasticity by boosting growth and stimulating new neural connections.
When considering Physical that is beneficial to the memory, you should consider aerobic (cardio) exercise such as spinning, running, swimming, walking, hiking, kickboxing  e.t.c. These exercises generally keep the blood pumping.
Note, anything that is good for your heart is as well good for your brain. Any  workout that requires hand-eye coordination or a complex motor skills are essential for brain building.
Try To Splits  one’s Side At Least 20 times  Daily:
Did you know that when you laugh, the stress hormone cortisol decrease and thereby improving your short term memory.” According to a team of researchers from Loma Linda University in California, conducted a study on twenty healthy and normal older adults and found that those who watched a 20- minute distraction free funny videos scored better on a short term memory test than those who just wait calmly and did not watch any video. The control group had saliva samples analysed for the stress hormone, cortisol. The research found that those who laughed for 20-minutes lowered their blood pressure and decrease their level of cortisol which connected to stress”.
No wonder this adage stood the test of time “ laughter is the best medicine”. Laughter engages multiple regions across the brain while other emotional responses only engage a specific region. According to a renowned psychologist Daniel Goleman in one of his works note that “laughter seems to help people to think more broadly and associate more freely”. You might be asking yourself at this juncture that how can I make myself to laugh? I will like to suggest the following;
*Laugh at yourself by sharing your embarrassing moment with others
*Spend sometime with fun and playful people
*When you hear laughter move towards it’s
*Emulate little children
*Listen to jokes and comedy shows.

The age long used to describe the parallel processing abilities of computers, multitasking is now shorthand for human attempt to do many things simultaneously as many things as possible. Unfortunately, multitasking actually slows you down ,make you prone to errors as well as make you forgetful.

It takes about eight (8) seconds to commit a piece of information to our memory , let say you’re on phone and carrying some items when you put down your car keys or cards , you’re likely to forget where you drop them.
The opposite of multitasking would be thoughtfulness, which helps you to attain undistracted focus. Student who undergo thoughtfulness, improve on reading and comprehension and have a better working memory capacity and have a fewer distracting thoughts.
When ever you fall into the trap of trying to complete eight task at once , stop yourself and focus your attention back on the task at hand. If distracting thoughts enter your head , remind yourself that these are only projections not reality, and allow them to pass without stressing you out.

Flash cards are very useful tool for studying and improving memory .Flash cards are useful because it encourages the brain to see clue ,which is quite easy and to remember piece of  information,and link that to more complex piece of information. This link prompts the brain to remember the rest of the information more easily,as seeing the clue causes the brain to actively recall the answer on the other side of the card .
Using flash cards is more useful than just reading over all the information you need to remember,as it means breaking it into more manageable chunks which would be more easier to recall. It also gives you a chance to see which piece of information you have come to grip with as there may be an answer you’re forgetting ,and focus your study on the part you are having trouble with. In summary; Flash cards helps to Improve our memory by active recall, Flash cards utilizes our metacognitive faculties and grant us confidence -base repetition...
